Bryce Menzies took top qualifying honors for the longest off-road race in the U.S. today on a four-mile desert loop just outside Jean, Nevada. Menzies posted the fastest time among Class 1400 and Class 1500 vehicles with a time 3:00.937 and a blistering average pace of 89.534 mph. Menzies was 3.48 seconds over second-fastest qualifier Justin Lofton, and 3.58 seconds quicker than third-place place Eduardo Laguna, who was the quickest among Class 1500 racers.

Finishing just outside of the top three was BJ Baldwin (3:04.675), with recent SCORE Baja 500 winner Carlos Apdaly Lopez earning the fifth-place spot (3:04.925). Last year’s top qualifier and race winner Jason Voss qualified sixth with a time of 3:05.382.

Today, race teams will do a quick once-over on their vehicles and double check pit stop plans, while tomorrow racers will tackle the 543-mile racecourse as the racers do a quick once over and prepare themselves to battle it out in the Nevada desert.
